We work in a multidisciplinary team both for in patients in Flora Clinic and out-patients at our rooms in Mayo Centre next door. This means we work closely with an Occupational therapist, Speech therapist, Physicians and Psychologist all based at Mayo Centre. We will try as far as possible to co-ordinate appointments so that multiple trips to the Centre are avoided. This also imitates the rehabilitation process in inpatient centres where patients will receive their therapies one after the other in the day.
We are available to continue your rehabilitation after discharge from hospital or a rehabilitation unit. When you are discharged we can continue your rehabilitation as an out-patient. We can also come to your home to do rehabilitation if you are unable to get to our facility. The areas we cover are Roodepoort, Northcliff, Fairland, Randpark Ridge, Linden, Randburg and surrounding suburbs.
We have some wonderful equipment that you will have the opportunity to use. We have an active passive exercise bike called a Theravital Trainer. This means if you are unable to cycle actively the bike will cycle your legs for you. If you are able to cycle the bike will record the effort you are able to put in and monitor your progress on printed out graphs. If you are paralysed in the legs you will have the wonderful feeling of cycling your legs.
We also have FES (functional electrical stimulation) machines and a Cefar therapeutic electrical stimulation unit. We have a Bobath plinth, parallel bars, balls, wedges and rollers. For this reason, it is always recommended, if at all possible, that the patient comes to our rooms.
Our therapists are able to do Kinesio Taping and other strapping techniques, serial casting and dry needling techniques. They are either NDT or Bobath trained. They can help with referring for Botox treatment, equipment, wheelchairs and orthotics.
